A guided nature walk will be held in Riverfront Woods Preserve on Saturday, September 23rd, from 9:30AM – 11AM in collaboration with the town’s Parks & Lands Committee, the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, the Royal River Conservation Trust, the Rotary Club of Yarmouth, community volunteers and local master naturalists. The Riverfront Woods Preserve is owned and managed by the Town of Yarmouth, and protected by conservation easements held by the Royal River Conservation Trust. This event will highlight the many stewards of the town’s open spaces and feature the first reading of the Parks & Lands Committee’s partnership with Yarmouth Community Alliance for Racial Equity (YCARE) to create a Land Acknowledgment statement, recognizing the role of the Abenaki and other tribes of the modern Wabanaki Confederacy in present-day Yarmouth.

We are very excited to be bringing this event together as a companion event to the fall public process for the Comprehensive Plan update and Yarmouth’s first Climate Action Plan. These distinct yet interrelated planning processes will set policy for at least the next decade on land use, municipal operations, and investments. The Riverfront Woods Preserve guided walk is indicative of the ways municipal policy, growth, and investment respond to the community’s values and priorities, including open space preservation.

Meeting Location: The trailhead is at a small parking lot at the end of Riverfront Drive on the right. Parking is limited and sensitivity to adjacent residents appreciated, so carpooling, walking, and biking are encouraged. Additional public parking can also be found at nearby Pratts Brook Park on North Road.
